Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System

The timely use of herbicides and cultural practices will not only control weeds, but help to minimize herbicide-resistant weed development. Burndown and early-season weed management is very important to start the season off right. The Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System is an advanced weed management system in the fight against resistant and tough-to-control weeds in soybeans and cotton. With advanced dicamba- and glyphosate-tolerant traits in soybean and dicamba-, glyphosate-, and glufosinate-tolerant traits in cotton, the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System can help maximize weed control and the yield potential and quality of Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans and cotton with XtendFlex® technology.

The Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System for cotton consists of the XtendFlex® herbicide trait and Xtendimax™ Herbicide with VaporGrip™ Technology, pending state approval, as well as the use of additional herbicides supported by Roundup Ready PLUS® Crop Management Solutions. XtendFlex® technology is the first, fully approved three-way herbicide trait with tolerance to glyphosate, glufosinate, and dicamba. Xtendimax with VaporGrip Technology is a unique formulation of dicamba designed specifically for the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System and is the industry’s lowest volatility dicamba formulation. Currently, Xtendimax with VaporGrip Technology is the only dicamba-containing herbicide approved for use in-crop with XtendFlex cotton. This technology is not cross-tolerant to 2,4-D, Status® or other Group 4 herbicides. To best manage the potential off-target movement of dicamba, the label for Xtendimax with VaporGrip Technology provides specific application requirements that must be followed by applicators.

The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Crop System for soybeans is built on the high yield potential of Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® technology, with tolerance to both glyphosate and dicamba. As with XtendFlex cotton, Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans are not cross-tolerant to 2,4-D, Status® or other Group 4 herbicides.

Xtendimax™ Herbicide with VaporGrip™ Technology has a federal registration for use on both Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans and Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton. However, individual states may impose additional use restrictions. For instance, several states are requiring applicators to attend state-sponsored training before applying this herbicide. Farmers should consult their state Extension specialists for information on these state-required training sessions and any state-specific use regulations.

  • Xtendimax with VaporGrip Technology may only be tank-mixed with products that have been tested and proven to not adversely affect the off-target movement potential of Xtendimax with VaporGrip Technology.

Do not tank mix products containing ammonium salts such as ammonium sulfate and urea ammonium nitrate that may lower pH of spray solution. This includes herbicides, insecticides, adjuvants, and additives. A list of approved products may be found at www.xtendimaxapplicationrequirements.com. Applications must be made at less than 15 miles per hour ground speed in a minimum carrier volume of 10 gallons per acre and with a boom height that does not exceed 24 inches above the target pest or crop canopy. Nozzles are restricted to the Tee Jet® TTI 11004 nozzles at 63 psi, at this time. Additional approved nozzles will be posted to www.xtendimaxapplicationrequirements.com when approved.

In cotton, an application up to 1.0 lb ae per acre (44 fluid ounces of product per acre) may be used prior to crop emergence. Over-the-top applications in Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton is limited to a single use rate of 0.5 lbs ae per acre (22 fluid ounces of product per acre). A downwind buffer of 110 feet is required between the last sprayed row and the closest edge of a downwind sensitive area when making an application of 22 fluid ounces or 220 feet when an application greater than 22 fluid ounces is made. Roads, paved or gravel surfaces, planted agricultural fields containing corn, dicamba tolerant cotton, dicamba tolerant soybean, sorghum, proso millet, small grains, or sugarcane, as well as agricultural fields that have been prepared for planting and any area covered by the footprint of a building, silo, or other man made structure with walls and/or a roof, can be incorporated as part of the required buffer distance. Do not apply Xtendimax™ Herbicide with VaporGrip™ Technology when the wind is blowing towards an adjacent, non-target susceptible crop. Under no circumstances shall an application be made where off-target particle movement may occur. When applications are conducted, wind speeds must be between 3 and 10 miles per hour when all other application requirements are met. Application equipment should be cleaned thoroughly after application of Xtendimax Herbicide with VaporGrip Technology, including a triple-rinse using a commercial detergent or sprayer cleaner or ammonia.

In Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans, the combined total application rate from crop emergence up to growth stage R1 must not exceed 44 fluid ounces (1.0 lb a.e. dicamba) per acre. Allow at least 7 days between applications. Allow at least 7 days between final application and harvest or feeding of soybean forage. Allow at least 14 days between final application and harvest or feeding of soybean hay.

For best performance in dicamba-tolerant cotton or soybeans, control weeds early, when they are less than 4 inches tall.

To assist in weed resistance management, growers should scout fields after application to detect weed escapes or shifts in weed species. Report any incidence of non-performance of this product to your Monsanto retailer, representative, or call 1-844-RRXTEND. If resistance is suspected, treat weed escapes with an herbicide having a site of action other than Group 4 and/or use non-chemical methods to remove escapes, as practical, with the goal of preventing further seed production.
