XtendiMax® Herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology Application Reminders

The Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System, introduced in 2017, is designed to help control herbicide-resistant and tough-to-control broadleaf weeds in soybean. Two components of the system are Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybean and a dicamba product, XtendiMax® herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology, a restricted use pesticide.

Dicamba and glyphosate herbicides can be utilized to manage weeds as a burndown, pre-planting/at planting, and as an in-crop option on Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans. Also, XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology offers potential soil activity for up to 14 days on certain small-seeded broadleaf weeds depending on rainfall and soil type. The wide application window allows for control of small weeds (less than 4 inches) when they are more vulnerable.

A weed management program should also include traditional residual herbicides in pre-emergence and post-emergence applications that have different sites of action. Targeting weeds that have not yet emerged or are small (less than 4 inches) will contribute to a more successful weed management program.

Use of XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology has various application requirements including nozzle selection, set-back distances from sensitive areas, spray volume, etc. A few key points when applying XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology include:

  • Do not use ammonium sulfate (AMS) or ammonium-based additives with XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology.
  • Apply when wind speed measured at the boom is between 3 and 10 mph and do not spray during an inversion.
  • Do not exceed 15 mph ground speed.
  • Always read and follow the most current pesticide label requirements, including Section 24(c) Special Local Need labeling, as application requirements may differ between Missouri and Kansas.

The RRXtend Spray App is a farmer and applicator focused digital tool that provides location-specific weather forecasts, digital record-keeping capabilities, and educational resources related to the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System.

The forecasts provide field-level, location-specific hourly forecasts including the following:

  • Wind speed and direction are forecasted at approximately 3 ft above the ground.
  • Inversion risk forecast to show the probability (by percentage) of an inversion occurring at a particular location and forecast hour.
  • Temperature and relative humidity
