Managing Pigweed in Cotton: Midsouth and Southeast

Successful management of Palmer pigweed (Amaranthus palmeri) requires season-long diligence. Cotton growers should start clean with timely burndown herbicides followed by one or more preemergence (PRE) herbicides, one or two postemergence (POST) applications and lay-by herbicides as needed. Late-emerging weeds have less of an impact in corn, but should be controlled. Management strategies should include residual herbicides, multiple modes of action, and multiple herbicide applications.
