A key to maximizing your corn crop’s performance and profitability is determining its optimal planting population. Manage your operation with precision by using the online Local Planting Population tool to make informed seed purchasing and planting decisions. This online tool can be accessed in your digital guides on agSeedSelect® at http://www.agseedselect.com/ as well as at https://www.aganytime.com/dekalb/tools/Pages/Local-Planting-Population-Recomendation.aspx.
Additionally, your DEKALB® seed bag tag now features a QR code that links directly to useful online information like planter settings and seed characteristics. Just scan the QR code directly from your smartphone and receive valuable information specific to that bag of seed.
As planting season approaches, the amount of fall applied and residual nitrogen (N) within reach of corn roots should be evaluated. One means of evaluation is utilization of the Climate FieldView™ Pro Nitrogen Advisor analysis program. The program continually collects environmental information such as rainfall and temperature on each field. Nitrogen application dates can then be input into the system and N loss estimated based on the environmental information.
Remember that if N is needed, 28-32% urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) can be applied as a carrier for pre-plant herbicide applications, and in some cases, in post-emergence herbicide applications. Leaf injury can result with POST applications of herbicides using UAN as a carrier. AMS should still be used in the tank mix when using UAN as a carrier for herbicide applications. Always remember to check herbicide labels for restrictions on the use of UAN as a carrier.
