Roundup Ready 2 Xtend™ soybeans are available right now from your retailer. Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans are now commercially available offering the industry’s first biotech-stacked soybean trait with both glyphosate and dicamba tolerance; however, in-crop dicamba use is pending regulatory approvals.
Even though dicamba may not be used over-the-top of Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans yet, growers should still consider planting these products on their farm this season. Over the last several years, Monsanto has worked to breed and test many new Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybean products that will be a good fit throughout the Midsouth region. Certain soybean products were planned for initial Roundup Ready 2 Xtend launch in 2014, but after approvals were delayed in early 2014 and again in 2015, some products were discarded as breeders were challenged to develop a new set of even better Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybean products for 2016 launch. These products have been tested in breeder plots and strip trials for the last two years and observed in production fields in the Midsouth. Breeders have taken advantage of the delay in approvals to re-select for soybean products that offer both higher yield potential and improved agronomic and disease tolerance packages, including frogeye leaf spot and southern stem canker.
To provide additional options for weed resistance management, breeding efforts have been focused on new Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybean products to allow the use of dicamba as a postemergence herbicide option (pending approvals). By 2017, it is expected over half of the Asgrow® brand soybean product portfolio will contain the Roundup Ready 2 Xtend trait.
Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans are broadly available in multiple brands, including Asgrow and Pioneer®, as well as, from a host of regional brands within the Midsouth region. Quantities and product availability will vary from brand to brand, but there is enough supply to get an introductory quantity on your farm in 2016. Contact your retailer for information on availability and supply.
Note: China approval was received for Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans in early February. Monsanto has obtained full approval for the single events that make up Roundup Ready 2 Xtend and anticipates the European Union approval of the stacked product in the near future.
The following is a brief summary of Asgrow brand Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans available for the 2016 growing season for the Midsouth region.
AG42X6 Brand - A taller indeterminate plant with Race 3 SCN, PRR (Rps1c), good tolerance to southern stem canker and frogeye leaf spot. It stands well and is suitable across soil types.
AG45X6 Brand - This medium tall product is broadly adapted in the Midsouth. It has good agronomics and carries the SR trait. With Race 3 SCN resistance and a good level of tolerance to frogeye leaf spot, it has shown to be well adapted to our area.
AG46X6 Brand - This product is a branchier plant type with good standability and resistance to Race 3 SCN. It carries PRR (Rps1A) and excellent field tolerance to phytophthora and shows good tolerance to southern stem canker and frogeye leaf spot. This product should handle both wide and narrow row spacings.
AG47X6 Brand - A medium tall indeterminate plant type which should be positioned similarly to AG4632 brand. This product is a tall plant with better than average tolerance to SDS and Race 3 SCN resistance, and strong tolerance to southern stem canker and frogeye leaf spot. It is also a SR stacked product.
AG49X6 Brand - This product is a medium tall plant, one to two inches shorter than AG4835 brand. It shows very good tolerance to southern stem canker and frogeye leaf spot and carries PRR (Rps1c) tolerance and Race 3 SCN resistance. Place this product on lighter to mixed soil types for best performance.
AG53X6 Brand - This product is agronomically sound with a bushy, medium height determinate plant with resistance to Southern root knot nematode and SCN Races 1 and 3. It carries good tolerance to SDS, southern stem canker, and frogeye leaf spot and has shown good adaptability across soil types.
AG54X6 Brand - A tall indeterminate plant with similar height to AG5335 brand. With Race 3 SCN resistance and very good field tolerance to phytophthora, it also shows very good defensive strength to leaf diseases including tolerance to SDS, southern stem canker, and frogeye leaf spot.
